The weekend before winter break, there was an opportunity presented to NJROTC to visit Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. A handful of students went to commemorate the fallen soldiers by placing wreaths on their headstones.
This is the first time in a few years NJROTC has done this, and students who participated noted that the mood of the event was one of solemn respect.
Senior Lu Brimhall noted, “it was a really great experience, [putting the wreaths was] simple but meaningful.” She added that she wished she could have done it for all three years.
Another classmate, Jhef Quiambao, said “...something about honoring people who fought for us years ago just felt good.”
The second part of this event was to retrieve the wreaths, which took place on January 8th. NJROTC member Phillip Mourer represented the program and the school by collecting the wreaths on our behalf.
More NJROTC news is to come as the year goes by! If the program sounds interesting and you would like to switch in, please email your counselors and the NJROTC teachers.
