The energy at the Unity game this year was unmatched. The fans never took a seat, the coaches sweated profusely, and most of all, the players competed in front of a complete crowd of friends, family, and community. While the Maroon team edged out White by just 2 points in the nail biting 23-21 finish, judging by the grins that stretched ear to ear, everybody came out a winner.

For the 4th year in a row, the annual Unity Basketball Game took place on February 6. With a buildup that outshone the classic ‘Nado’ game, finding a parking spot and a seat in the packed gym proved challenging. A challenge worth overcoming, no doubt. As Mr. Wells announced the starting lineups, palpable passion, joy, and love for the game erupted from cheering Pointers. Every year, I am amazed at the Point Loma High camaraderie and support for one another. Highlighted by Principal Becker’s halftime speech, Point Loma High truly is the finest high school in all the world. The game far outshone this year’s Super Bowl, and I would go as far as to say that the Halftime Show overshadowed the Super Bowl’s as well. After an impressive first half, starting forward for the Maroon team, Paul, hung up his basketball shoes for a pair of pom poms, proving to be an exceptional cheerleader.

We are so grateful for Athletic Director, Coach V, who helps organize and ensure a wonderful time at the Unity Game. A big thank you also goes out to the student-coaches of the basketball and cheer team who put in extra time to help develop the player’s skills prior to the game. Finally, a thank you goes out to everybody who showed up and continuously shows their love for all the students at Point Loma High day in and day out.
