Point Loma High’s track season is off to a great start! There are personal records left and right, from freshmen as well as returning athletes. Our very own distance team has been making great advances, and Manny Correia (Grade 11) and Sophie Compton (Grade 12) have especially represented Point Loma well.
On March 12, Manny set the record for the fastest 1600m at Point Loma High (4:16.24) and on March 26, he beat this time at the Mt. Carmel/Asics Track and Field Invitational (4:14.62). The record (4:17.02) was previously held by Rick Sweet and hasn’t been broken since 2013. As of March 26, he also became the second fastest 800m runner at Point Loma High (1:55.14). On March 19, he PR’d (personal recorded) at the Elmer Runge Invitational (9:42.50) and in this event, he now holds the eighth fastest 3200m time at PLHS. We are excited to see what he does next!
Sophie Compton has also been making notable success, especially in the 1600m event. She placed first on March 19 in the Elmer Runge Invitational (5:09.82), holding the fourth fastest 1600m time ever at Point Loma High. On April 16, she ran 1 mile in 5:08.36 at the 4th Annual Jim Cerveny Invite. The same day, she PR’d in the 800m event (2:22.50).
