Without tennis facilities on campus, the Pointer tennis team flies under the radar but is definitely worth checking out as they have had a stunning season so far.📷
After finishing last year with five singles and four sets of doubles in the Girl’s CIF Playoffs, six returning Seniors and multiple underclassmen with Varsity experience had plenty to look forward to heading into their 2019 campaign, and they have not disappointed. Smashing and volleying their way to victory, the team’s strongest asset is their doubles pairs, collecting wins in all their league matches thus far. In their last four of five matches, the Pointers have crushed their competition. They had a recent 13-5 victory over University City, in which the team started out a little slow but quickly picked up after the first six rounds to go on to win. With a couple of mistakes at the start, the Pointers did not let themselves get down. Instead they fought back hard and played their way to victory. They also had three more victories over Morse 18-0, Serra 15-3 and Madison 17-1. Their only defeat was at the hand of non-league Division 1 La Jolla High.
With an impressive 11-4 overall and 11-0 in the Eastern League, there are only a few matches remaining in the regular season. On a roll, crushing most of the competition, and with their perfect record in league play, the Pointers look to continue their momentum as they prove themselves as the top teams in the Eastern League. With plenty of talent throughout the roster, the Pointers have a good shot to make some noise in the CIF tournament this fall.
