Point Loma High’s basketball teams are thrilled to be back on the court this winter. After sitting out last regular season due to Covid-19, both girls’ and boys’ JV and varsity are looking forward to a long season of fierce competition. The teams expect many more Pointer fans in the stands eager to resume their cheering in person.
PLHS basketball coaches include Josh Aros, David Aros, Taylor Bobbitt, Shane Crumrine, and Curtis Norwood.
Returning seniors for the boys’ varsity team include John Woodworth, Ali Johnson, JT Harris, Rashaun Johnson, Max Bowen, Tre Mantayla, and Bryen Spaulding. Returning girls’ varsity seniors include Destiny Smith, Nicole Terry, Kiera O’Brien, Gianna Ryan and Mikaela Miles.
Players have been practicing diligently for the chance to show off their skills on the court. Grant Cegelski, a junior on the boys varsity team, shared his enthusiasm. “I’m hoping for great things this season“
A full team effort resulted in a Pointer win against Steele Canyon and the girls’ varsity are going for a repeat in their upcoming game. They’re also hoping to continue their legacy given their Division III CIF Champions title for the 2019-2020 school year.
Upcoming games include boys’ varsity versus Foothills Christian on Monday, December 20th, while the girls’ varsity will take on Mission Bay High School, also on Monday, December 20th.
