Holiday Spirit Advice

Updated: Feb 13, 2020

By Isabella Regino

Happy holidays, Pointers! Want to get into the holiday spirit this year? Here are some ideas.

  1. Get a Christmas tree and decorate it

  2. Watch holiday movies (Such as Elf, Home Alone [all 4 in the Home Alone series], A Christmas Story, or It’s a Wonderful Life)

  3. Dress-up your dog in a holiday sweater

  4. Read a book by the fire and drink hot cocoa

  5. Go ice skating (there’s an ice rink at Liberty Station!)

  6. Bake cookies or holiday recipes with your family and friends

  7. Write letters to your family members that are out of town

  8. Host a Secret Santa/gift exchange party

  9. Make DIY ornaments and decorate your house

  10. Light candles with holiday scents (evergreen, peppermint, cinnamon, vanilla, etc.)

  11. Go Christmas caroling

  12. Listen to holiday music and sing along

  13. Write a Christmas song or a song about the holiday cheer

  14. Decorate your stocking

  15. Go gift shopping for others

  16. Make homemade gifts/cards

  17. Donate canned food to food drive organizations

  18. Take photos of winter scenery

  19. Hang Christmas lights

  20. Spread the holiday cheer by leaving random notes of kindness where people will find them in your neighborhood (ex. on windshields of cars)

  21. Throw a holiday party

  22. Drive around the neighborhood streets and admire the Christmas light displays

  23. Do small random acts of kindness and generosity (offer to volunteer at shelters or hospitals, brighten someone’s day with a compliment, or donate unneeded items to those who need them)

One of the best things about the holidays is all the excitement, cheer, and the feeling of warmth that this time brings. Enjoy life in the moment and make the most of the time you spend with family and friends!
