Girls Field Hockey

Early November marked the end of an era for field hockey when the season ended. On November 4th, Varsity played against La Jolla Country Day and won 3-2 in overtime. The stands contained friends and family of the Pointers including Diana Price, an alumni of Point Loma High School who played four years of field hockey. During this game, Heather Hirsch (#6) scored the first goal and Gabby Vanderhoof (#5) scored the second goal, tying the game 2-2 and setting up an overtime with everything to play for. With seconds left to play in overtime, Heather Hirsch got her second goal of the game, causing all the Pointers to burst on the field with excitement after clinching the victory.

This game was special because it was the Fockey Pointers senior night! There were decorations set up along the fence for our four special seniors: Grace Xitco (#13), Heather Hirsch (#6), Kylie Hastings (#3), and Chloe Allen (#42). They will all be missed greatly next season, but they surely made their mark. This wonderful celebration plus the win was a magnificent way to end the Field Hockey season.

Overall this Field Hockey season was pretty amazing. Of course, there were highs and lows but the best part of the season was the players determination.

“Field Hockey is hard, but I love the sport so I try really hard while playing it” said Varsity player Renecia Watson (#9).

The Fockey Pointers are getting better and better and the high school cannot wait for it’s future years.
