Pointer Athletes’ Resilience

Updated: Dec 16, 2020

It’s almost that time of year again, sports time! Unfortunately, sports are starting later than usual this year, the soonest start time being late December. However, that doesn’t stop our Pointer athletes from practicing and preparing for the upcoming seasons on their own! Even though the world is in the middle of a pandemic, our Pointers are staying resilient by practicing while taking the necessary precautions to stay safe.

The players in the four of the big sports, baseball, basketball, football, and soccer are all ready to get back to the grind. However, most aren’t able to play for the school quite yet due to the State of California and San Diego Unified School District guidelines. Because of this, they have found other ways to prepare for the upcoming seasons. Some athletes are doing drills individually and others are holding social distancing practices or workouts with their teammates. Many pointers are also doing club sports with their teammates to get as much in-game experience that’s currently possible due to our circumstances.

Although many sports have to wait to start practicing with their beloved coaches again, one sport, football, can do that now. This is because they are one of many sports that will begin their seasons in December as they are a fall sport. Other sports such as baseball, basketball, and soccer plan to start a few months later since they are all spring sports.
