Point Loma Varsity Women's Volleyball

by Caleb Rogart

One of Point Loma High’s most beloved and talented teams can be seen in the Point Loma Pointers women’s varsity volleyball team, who has been having a spectacular season. With their win this past week, defeating La Jolla High School in just three sets, the Pointers have earned an impressive record of 8-2. The victory was impressive, winning in three short sets, but it also cemented the Pointers’ position as second in their league, and first in the entirety of San Diego’s volleyball Division II. Point Loma is second only to Cathedral Catholic High School, who ranks first in the entire nation.

Last week was also the Pointers’ senior night, where talents such as Deanie Woodruff, Emma Heckman, and their captain, Sophia Meyer, celebrated their last regular season home game. The Pointers blew past their opponents, Patrick Henry High School, winning a quick three sets to top off an exciting night. Pointer captain Sopia Meyer had this to say, “This year has been a really fun and successful season so far. This team has a lot of good energy, and if we continue to connect well I think we’re in good shape to hopefully win DII CIFs this year.”

Senior Jade Whitmore added,"This will be my final season playing indoor volleyball for Point Loma High School and I am very grateful to share the experience with my dedicated and driven teammates. As for the upcoming playoffs, I can only hope we keep playing our game the way we have been and remain together on the court. That’s when we play our best."

As Meyer mentioned, Point Loma has a great chance to go all the way and become champions of their division during the 2022 CIF playoffs. Be sure to give your support and attend games. Playoffs start this week and are sure to be action-packed.
