Halloween is a universally adored holiday by everyone of all ages, although this prized day of the year wouldn’t be complete without a scarily show-stopping costume. Whether you and your friends devise a clever group costume or you pull off a solo outfit, costumes are a fundamental part of Halloween. Wearing costumes on Halloween dates back to over 2,000 years ago, originating with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Since then, costumes have evolved from freaky masks all the way to an infinite wardrobe of creativity. This year is bound to be filled with brand new costumes reflecting on an eventful year.

It's been a very big year for pop culture. With Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour,” hhe Barbie movie, and Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse, there are a lot of options to choose from. Some of the biggest costumes this year are any one of Taylor Swift’s costumes from her tour. This ranges from her “Bejeweled” outfit to the iconic “22” outfit from her album Red. There are also some funny references you can make, like a mirrorball, which is basically just a huge disco ball, in reference to her folklore album. Barbie could be a really fun group costume too. Everybody could be a different Barbie from the movie, like Rollerskating Barbie, Weird Barbie, and Stereotypical Barbie. Anyone could be Ken as well, all you need is a big fur suit and a cowboy hat.

Spiderman is one of the biggest movies from this year. It had some incredible cameos including Donald Glover, Nick Cage, Andrew Garfield, and Karan Soni. There are so many characters to be this year, like Spiderman (Miles Morales), Ghost Spider (Gwen Stacey), Spider Pig (John Mulaney), Spider-Punk (Hobie Brown), and literally any other Spiderman you can think of from the film.

Of course, you can't forget about the classics. All of the old horror movies, like Scream and Child’s Play, have had costumes in circulation for many years now. But recently, “Ghostface” has become quite popular on TikTok around this time of year. Chucky, having just released a sequel to its award-winning film, is another great option.

To truly enjoy the holiday, put a few spins on some hit classics this year.
